For some, a more traditional talking therapy is suitable. For other children, therapy may involve baking, gardening or spending time together within the home. We feel this removes some of the pressure and fear around therapy, which is especially important when working with young people who may find it challenging to trust adults.
Each home has a dedicated therapy room. These rooms are equipped with pens, paint, kinetic sand, shells, clay, Lego and board games and allow for creative activities and play. Sessions are weekly, on the same day and at the same time. Additional sessions can be offered, according to the needs of the child.
It offers children and young people an opportunity to process trauma and abuse in a safe and contained space, where they do not feel as though they are burdening someone else. Often, children carry guilt around disclosures and therapy is a place where they are free to share their experiences.
Therapy also provides children with a chance to explore their identities, support their mental and emotional well-being and give them a blueprint for secure relationships in the future.
Our team of support staff will ensure that each child receives the individualised care they need in order to develop their independence and achieve to the best of their ability.
